Why are videogames considered bad by society?

You hear it everywhere. Videogames are the root of evil. Why do videogames have such a bad reputation in most society parts? Why do people blame videogames when another rampage happens? Is there a particular reason why so much things are blamed on videogames or is it just because they need something responsible for it?

And yes I know this is not the right tag, but I dont know which one I should choose else.
