Can I kill a mind controller enemy with regular weapons (not area damage weapons)?

Well, the title says it all. If I mind control an enemy, he will be released after a few turns (3, I think) and then I get an enemy right in the middle of my ranks. While mind controlled, more often than not I just want to kill him, so it won't bother me later. Can I do this with something else but grenades or rockets. Not only is it cumbersome to do it like that (waste a lot of soldiers' actions) but is unwieldy as well (can potentially harm my soldiers with the grenade/rockets).
