For multiplayer and social games, developers and publishers are well known to intensively track player behavior (in order to avoid cheating, improve balancing, maximise revenue etc). After all, the data is already on their servers.
Is this also common for single player games, and if so, on what level? I imagine that it would be important feedback to know that most players take more time at a certain part of a level than expected, die more often and so on. But technically, it seems possible to completely record a play session and send it to the developers.
Are there any differences between (more or less) open platforms like the PC and smartphones, and the console manufacturer's respective networks (PSN, Xbox Live, Nintendo Wifi Connection)?
